Back to the puzzle

Solution: Trial Awhile
Answer: ALUMCRUMB

Each clue is a synonym for a pair of rhyming words (like the puzzle title). These are:

Consume Recent Information = Use News
Kind Frozen Water = Nice Ice
Mimic Excellent = Imitate Great
Swell Paddle = Grow Row
Actual Petition = Real Appeal
Elec Current Slightly Wet = Amp Damp
Boring Tool Above = Drill Uphill

Chomp Correct = Bite Right
Uncover Snake-like Fish = Reveal Eel
Finish Climb = End Ascend
Straighten Blueprint = Align Design
Profound Ding = Deep Beep
Accuse Ignite = Blame Inflame
Put Money Into Quiz = Invest Test
Idea Purchased = Thought Bought

Along to way, the solver hopefully notices that within each grouping, the first letter of the second word of a rhyming pair is the same as the first letter of the first word of the next rhyming pair (cycling back to the start at the end of the group). For example, “News” and “Nice” both start with ‘n’.

Picking out the letters shared between consecutive clues for each group reveals a new clue: UNIGRAD BREADBIT. This must be a clue for another rhyming pair.

The answer to the puzzle is ALUM CRUMB.
